— “Stop pretending” — my stepbrother said, and then pushed me into the pool. The whole family burst out laughing, having no idea what would happen a moment later.

A month ago, I was in a serious car accident. From that moment on, I was no longer able to walk normally without a special brace supporting my knee and leg. Even with it, every step was a huge effort for me.

There were days when the pain was so strong that I locked myself in my room and cried quietly. Despite everything, I always tried to smile around my family.

But to my stepbrother, Lucas, all of it was nothing more than an act. He was convinced that I was exaggerating just to get attention. The worst part was that no one really defended me.
Last weekend, the whole family gathered by the pool for a big party. Laughter could be heard everywhere, people were taking photos and having the best time. I sat quietly at the edge of the pool, simply trying to get through the evening without putting too much strain on my leg.

Then Lucas came up behind me.

— “Stop pretending. I’m sure you can walk normally.”

Before I could understand what he was doing, he shoved me hard into the pool.

I FELL INTO THE WATER WITH A CRY OF PAIN AND TERROR. IN SHOCK, I FELT MY BRACE COME LOOSE AND SINK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE POOL.
At first, the whole family started laughing, thinking it was just a stupid joke. But after only a few seconds, the atmosphere changed completely when a certain man stepped in.
Suddenly, a man rushed toward the pool, immediately realizing that something serious was happening.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he jumped into the water to help me.

My brace was lying at the bottom of the pool, and my leg hurt so badly that I could not move normally.

The man helped me get out of the water and wrapped me in a towel, while the others had been laughing only moments earlier.

His name was Marc Delcourt — he was a businessman who had come that evening to sign an important contract with my father.

WHEN HE SAW LUCAS’S BEHAVIOR AND THE SILENCE OF MY ENTIRE FAMILY, HIS FACE CHANGED INSTANTLY.
My father tried to turn the whole thing into a joke and explained that it was only supposed to be fun, but Marc cut him off.

— A family that publicly humiliates someone after a serious injury does not inspire my trust.

A few minutes later, he left the house without signing any agreement.
