In their family, there had been a certain tradition for generations — after the wedding ceremony, the groom was supposed to carry the bride in his arms from the church all the way to the house. All the guests knew it perfectly well, and the bride herself had been deeply emotional about that very moment since the morning. To her, it seemed like the most important and most touching part.
When the ceremony came to an end and the last guests began leaving the church, the newlyweds appeared in the doorway of the temple. She stood beside her husband, smiling and slowly stretching out her arms, waiting for him to come closer, take her into his arms, and in that way begin their new life together.
But everything unfolded completely differently.
The groom suddenly turned not to her, but to his mother. She was standing slightly to the side, moved and happy. And then, in front of everyone, he lifted her into his arms — exactly the way he should have done with his wife.
They laughed, posed for photos, his mother wrapped her arms around her son’s neck, and he looked completely pleased with the whole situation.
The bride froze.
Her smile slowly disappeared, and her eyes widened in shock. She felt as if the air had suddenly been taken from her lungs. Silence instantly fell among the guests. Everyone understood that something deeply humiliating for the bride had just happened, along with the complete breaking of the family tradition.
SHE COULD BARELY HOLD BACK HER TEARS AND THE ANGER RISING INSIDE HER.
— What are you doing?… This is our wedding… — she whispered in a trembling voice.
The groom only shrugged.
— She is my mother. And she is more important than anything.
At that moment, the bride felt something inside her break. And right then, she already knew exactly what she would do next… Her reaction left everyone stunned 😱😢
The bride felt her hands trembling. She could not understand why he had done something like that to her. Publicly. On the most important day of their lives. She felt humiliated and pushed aside.
The guests stood in silence, exchanging shocked looks with one another. Some women covered their mouths with their hands. Someone whispered quietly:
— You don’t do something like that…
THE GROOM WAS STILL HOLDING HIS MOTHER IN HIS ARMS AND LAUGHING, AS IF HE WERE ENJOYING THE WHOLE COMMOTION. HE DID NOT EVEN LOOK IN HIS WIFE’S DIRECTION.
The bride slowly stepped closer, so that he would finally notice her. Her voice was calm, but it was enough for the smile to vanish from his face immediately.
— If you think I am going to put up with all of this… you are very wrong.
She took the wedding ring off her finger — in front of all the guests — and dropped it onto the grass.
A loud gasp spread through the crowd. The groom instantly turned pale, as if only now realizing how far he had gone.
— What are you doing?! — he shouted, trying to free his hands, but of course he could not drop his mother.
— I am drawing conclusions — she answered calmly. — If on the very first day of marriage you place me below everyone else… later it will only get worse.
She turned around and walked away, leaving everyone in complete shock.
The groom finally set his mother down on the ground and went after his wife, but the guests blocked his way. Several women stood in front of him, shaking their heads.
— You destroyed everything yourself — one of them said.
— A real husband does not behave like that — added another.
And the bride walked away.
She now knew only one thing — it was better to leave immediately than to spend her whole life beside a man like that.
